South Carolina Sam's Club

A 4 year old girl who was shopping with her grandmother (age 47) in Columbia, South Carolina reached into grandma's purse and got the loaded gun that grandma kept in there. She shot herself with it in Sam's Club. Grandma had a firearms carry license. I assume that means she had the mandatory safety training that that state requires, and which is the obstacle preventing that state from having a receiprocity agreement with Georgia.

Great now Sams and Wal-Mart will enact a no firearms policy because grandma didn't watch her granddaughter. #-o

Reminds Me Of..

The above story reminds me of this:

Video shows what happens when a "responsible adult" leaves a loaded shotgun, round chambered, near an idiot co-worker or teenage boy. Even though the shotgun is within easy reach of the adult woman who apparantly has it for defense of the business she manages, it's ALSO within easy reach of the boy genius who decides to roll his chair over there and see what happens if he applies his booger hook to the bang switch and tugs on it. As the video shows, it goes

BANG!

Moral of the story= You can legislate morality and you cant mandate common sense.

Idiots will be idiots and Murphy's Law will prevail from time to time.

It is a shame that the educated masses will be penalized for the acts of the stupid.

Granny was a magistrate judge with a permit to carry. Wonder if that will keep her from being treated like an average person under the same circumstances. (i.e. "we're SURE you broke some laws, we'll think of something to charge you with" or "Somebody got shot. That means somebody is going to jail, no ifs ands or buts")

Walmart/Sam's spokeswoman said this:

Tara Stewart, South Carolina spokesperson for Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, said as of right now they do not have a policy on concealed weapons, but after this incident, that could change.

"While we don't have a sign posted, I think everyone knows the rules and laws. We are working with police to make changes if necessary," said Stewart.
Not sure WHAT that means. "We don't have a sign (because corporate policy says you can carry here). We are working with police to (do what? enforce corporate policy?)."

The little girl is apparently going to be OK. That's some good news at least.

News to me.

Maybe they will have a policy against judges and government officials carrying.... Or carrying in a purse.
