After inspecting the saber and determining it did not have any sharp edges, the principal initially gave it back to the boy. However, the Plymouth-Canton School District said they reviewed state and federal law and since the symbol resembles a weapon, they banned it in December.
Dull knives carried by a muslim are OK, toy guns or a pointed finger carried by anyone else are usually grounds for dismissal.

LMAO!! a comment from the bottom:

As part of my religion, my son will now be packing a ceremonial glock in his lunch. That ought to trump a ceremonial dagger.
I feel as americans a lot of us are very tolerant of religions and faiths. But seriously, this is going way to far.
