And while the biggest buyer of AS&E's machines over the last seven years has been the Department of Defense for operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, the company says law enforcement agencies have also been using them domestically, deploying the roving scanners to search for vehicle-based roadside bombs in American cities. "This product is now the largest-selling cargo and vehicle inspection system ever," says Joseph Reiss, AS&E's vice president of marketing.
The DHS didn't respond to requests for comment on exactly which of its agencies use the ZBVs. The New York Police Department confirmed that it uses the technology but wouldn't divulge specifics.

Yep. None needed. Its apparent that American citizens do not have many rights left.

I'm not sure our government knows that 1984 was a book of warning and not a handbook.

"Vehicle-based roadside bombs in American cities"? Seriously?
Whatever happened to "car bomb?"

And yes, seriously.

To their credit, a dude tried to set one off in time square recently.

I don't think I'm quite ready to give up even more privacy in the name of security.

For the life of me, I don't know why they haven't been successful - yet.....

They just haven't really tried. Give them time and I'm afraid they'll start doing it. Gonna be a sad day when it begins. :(

When... not if things start to get violent here in America. I'm talking a car bomb a month in a heavy populated area like NY, or other larger cities, or even more often than a car bomb a month by terrorist, I really cannot imagine how bad it is going to get for our freedoms.

Or it could be Mumbai style attacks, really any terrorist action.

Our freedoms are almost non-existent already. I can't imagine how bad its going to get when America becomes more violent.

They're back: link
Sources told Winne that agents were using a massive U.S. Customs and Border Protection X-ray apparatus to check for explosives, chemicals and radioactive material that could potentially harm aircrafts.

Seriously??
Is that really what you meant to say with regard to someone attempting to detonate a car bomb in Times Square and potentially killing a lot of innocent people??
