How in the world do they allow live ammo in simulation exercises?

the levels of negligence and incompetence required here surprises even me. i wonder if it's not the whole mindset of the rules not applying to them bleeding over into other aspects of their lives. first they can ignore criminal law when it comes to themselves; now it's the rules of gun safety...i wonder if next they will try to ignore the law of gravity.How in the world do they allow live ammo in simulation exercises?

All branches of our armed forces have people die while on training exercises. It happens a LOT. But the huge difference here is that our armed forces are in place to kill and blow stuff up.

First, truly a sad, and avoidable, event. Second, Ray Soccoro, director of the School of Justice at Miami Dade College is quoted as saying "In most cases, however, police use rubber guns at at the least, unloaded weapons." To which my reply is - why would they use ANYTHING but a blue gun in such a situation?

Per local news, the cop was playing the bad guy, she was the cop in the scenario. She was reportedly hit twice and the cop was apparently using his Back Up REVOLVER.
That is one just plain dayum stupid cop. Apparently he figured with the cylinder under the hammer empty it was safe or something like that.

In the linked article about the thug, I mean officer, the video of his dog mauling the bicyclist was hard to watch. I guess it makes his story more plausible the more he says to stop resisting while your dog is using the guy as a chew toy.This is the cop who shot her according to this article. Absolutely inexcusable. In this day and age, there's no remotely valid reason this should have happened. The training area should have been sterilized of any live ammunition. Nothing but training weapons should have been present, and even then it should have been triple-checked.
There needs to be charges at the very least, due to the gross negligence involved.

Instead of being allowed to resign which just affords them the opportunity to get picked up by another department, cops like this should lose their certification permanently and go find another line of work. The administrator who rehires them should also be fired for extremely careless judgement.Coel was hired by the Punta Gorda Police Department in 2014 after he was allowed to resign from the Miramar Police Department in South Florida for excessive force.
