Why is it that the Democrats and NYT always want to . . .

Eliminate the Electoral College? It is obvious that elimination of the First and Second Amendments would quickly follow.

Always amazes me how clever and forward thinking the Founders were to protect us. Yet some people think altering the structure of this incredible Country to fix their temporary issue is the answer.

Because they are shallow, yet arrogant, people that genuinely believe that "change is good".
Because for two generations or more people have been indoctrinated with the idea that this country is a democracy and that democracy is good.

And because they think they have all the right answers for the whole country wrapped up in NYC and LA. Everyone else doesn't have a clue as to what is good for us or country.

There's a LOT of that.

Voters target Electoral College members to switch their Trump ballots, elect Clinton.
The largest effort is through the website Change.org, which as of Saturday has about 3 million signatures, getting closer to its goal of 4.5 million.
If they had expended that much time and energy BEFORE the election, they might not be unhappy with the result. But they didn't...

Sorry, you don't get to try again after the game is over.
They want to eliminate it because they lost. The know some "groups" with high reproduction rates in places like California could carry the liberals to victory.
Eric Holder likes that idea too.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder said he's making a push to end the Electoral College.

The nation's former top law enforcement official made the announcement Friday on "Real Time With Bill Maher."

Maher began his interview noting that Hillary Clinton's Election Day loss to Donald Trump - despite her winning the popular vote - is the second time in 16 years Democrats have been shut out of the White House despite gaining more votes.

"How do we solve this problem?" Maher asked.
What problem? It worked like it should.
I hear all the complaints about the electoral college, but many forget and democrats don't care that under our system just about any loser can vote?

Someone who is third generation in public housing with no ambition, the kind of person that was nothing but trouble you were glad when they missed school, they eat off welfare and food stamps, have 6 kids by 6 baby daddy's and most will be involved in crime. They actually get to vote and decide how to cut up money the same way a person busting their tail to make a better life for their children do? Our founders never intended that and wanted people to have skin in the game.

Also on the popular vote maybe someone knows this. I think msn had something about the absentee ballots only get counted if they could make a difference. So lets say trump wins florida and the margin is say 1 million votes. If all the absentee ballots are less than the million vote margin they don't bother counting them since it would not make a difference? Anyone know the deal on this? I thought all votes were counted? It would make sense though if the margin is 1 millon votes and only 500k come in not to waste money counting them.

They do count them all. The winner may be called before the count is complete if there are not enough to make a difference but in the next couple of weeks the counting will be complete and the actual vote totals will be in. Though not too many will be paying attention to it and you will more than likely not hear about it on any of the news channels. This is why there are still 2 states not called. They may never be formally called because it's all moot at this point. The votes will be counted and entered into some obscure record someplace.
It's because switching to a straight national popular vote would eliminate the States from the process as entities thereby further entrenching the national gov't.
Right. There is a reason we are called the United States.
If I had my way we wouldn't even vote in a presidential election. I would prefer that Senators and Electoral College members were appointed by the State Governors and confirmed by the State Legislatures.

+1. The closer decisions are to small groups of people, the better.

Nailed it, make that 3 or 4 generations. Started with Woodrow Wilson.
Didn't I read a while back about some states changing to where all their EC votes would go to the candidate with the most popular votes nationwide? I thought I read that GA was considering it.
Why would a State do that and give up their influence in the outcome?
