Where to find local crime stats?

Where can I find stats for local and metro area crime? I've got someone close to me who just doesn't think it could happen to her b/c she likes her neighborhood. When I show her horror stories from national news I get the standard denial stance, "But that happened there and not here. Stuff like that doesn't happen around here to people like me. Quit trying to scare me." And I'm made out to be a nutbar for carrying. Like I said, this person is close to me, so I'd like to back up my arguments with real, local substance.

you can try this but I don't think its very current
http://www.city-data.com/

also - I think Cherokee prints a local weekly paper listing some of the weekly arrests - perhaps the county where she lives has some sort of crime stats in a local paper
Ah, beat me to it on that link.

If you prefer to get it from the horse's mouth, here is the one for Atlanta PD

Looking at the APD stats shows one o fthe reasons I live in Cumming. In every category, the crime rate for any given month in the City of Atlanta is far worse than any given year in Forsyth County (using DOJ stats for Forsyth County).
In 2003:

4.2 murders per 100,000 in Statesboro;
34.6 murders per 100,000 in Atlanta.

In 2004:

0.0 murders per 100,000 in Statesboro;
20.9 murders per 100,000 in Atlanta.

You should look at DC. :wink:
DC's "crime index" is lower than Atlanta's. Not sure what the calculation for it is, though.

City-data.com crime index (higher means more crime, U.S. average = 325.2)
In 2004:

Statesboro Crime Index: 287.9
Atlanta Crime Index: 934.1
D.C. Crime Index: 675.2
:lol: True...good luck with it. Ramm has got some subliminal message things for adjusting people to guns. :?
