I just purchased the compact model at the pawn shop at Hwy 53/400 near Dawsonville. He had a few in stock but I liked the compact and it had fiber optic sights. I think it was $219 new (listed for about $285). Wallyworld in Cumming had the standard one for about $179. Get them while you can as the evil 10/22 has a removable magazine putting it on the 2007 ban list.

Compact? I didn't know they came in a compact. I'm looking to put use the receiver with a tactical solutions barrel and thumbhole stock...and later add a suppressor.

If you go to the ruger site and drill down to the 10/22 page the first one on the list is the 10/22 CRR with these specs:
    Caliber: .22 LR
    Barrel Length: 16 1/8"
    Stock: Hardwood
    Rear Sight: Adjustable Fiber-Optic
    Suggested Retail Price: $ 285.00

Are you wanting one for plinking, or do you plan to build it out into a target rifle?

Over the course of time I will build it into a target gun and the occassional tree rat duty.

I bought a Remington 597 instead. My wife still has not decided whether she will "allow" my boy to shoot it on June 16.

Walmart sells them a little cheaper than most places, but I do believe their 10/22 is a price point version. That shouldn't really be an issue if you plan to build it out as all you will want then is the receiver/action anyway.

I would just buy a receiver from vortq. but they're expensive.

It's a shame Ruger won't sell the receivers.
