What types of weapons can be carried with the ga weapons permit?

Lol guess trying to ask if a firearm is the only weapon that can be carried with the permit...
Ma Deuce is discouraged.

Nemo
It covers anything that is classified as a weapon in Georgia. Knives over 5" are the most common "not a gun" weapon, I would think.

I'm pretty sure broadswords and halberds are inclusive as well since they are blades over 5".

Spears and pikes are less clear.

for comparison (as per Gary Gygax)...

weapon / length / damage
-----------------------------
halberds, 5'+, 1-10
broadswords, 3 1/2', 2-8
spears, 5-13', 1-6
pikes, 18', 1-6

:D
Well, as long I can carry my Fiddleback Forge Bishop knife...

Now that's some serious steel...
narrow question

if the original poster's question is: What kinds of weapons are ONLY legal to carry with a GWL, and would be illegal to carry in public without a carry permit, the answer is the definition of "weapon" as that term is used in the carry permit law, 16-11-129, which uses the definitions found in 16-11-125.1.
Weapon = a handgun with a barrel not longer than 12" or a knife with a blade that is greater than 5 inches.

So generally, a GWL is needed for handguns and big knives.

There are certain oddball exceptions in the law, depending on where you go or what you do.

Sometimes having a GWL will make the difference between a LONG GUN being legal or illegal. Such as if you have one in your car in the parking lot of a jail, prison, or school. Or the airport, or any other interstate transportation terminal.
Broad question

Broader Question: If I'm a law-abiding citizen with a GWL, what kinds of weapons or self defense items can I carry in Georgia?

Now, the general rule for most places is anything. Stabbing knives, slashing knives, nunchucks, clubs, spears, bows and arrows, blowguns, flintlock pistols, cap and ball revolvers, AK-pattern pistols with forearm braces, sawed-off shotguns, machine guns, 9mm pistols with silencers and loaded with 147 grain subsonic ammo (all NFA weapons are legal in GA and OK to carry if they're registered to you or your trust, on file with ATF).

Oh, and stun guns, tasers, chemical sprays (tear gas type or O.C. pepper type), blank guns, BB and pellet guns, paintball markers, airsoft guns, singshots, and emergency flare guns are all legal to carry. Probably not flamethrowers, though. That might run afoul of some "disturbing the peace" law, or some city or county fire safety code.

Georgia's preemption law was recently strengthened to forbid any level of government, other than the General Assembly itself through modifications to O.C.G.A. statutory law, from enacting or enforcing any restriction on not just guns or ammo, but any other weapons, too. And a new subsection to 16-11-173 (subsection "f") defines weapon as: ,,, any device designed or intended to be used, or capable of being used, for offense or defense, including but not limited to firearms, bladed devices, clubs, electric stun devices, and defense sprays.

So even if those things are not explicitly covered by your GWL, if there's no state law against carrying them, and since no City or County or other government entity is allowed to make rules against carrying them, they're OK for people to carry. (In most places, but some of these weapons can be, and are, banned from certain kinds of facilities).

Technically, knives with blades less than 5" long are legal under state law to be carried into courthouses and courtrooms, but you won't be able to get one past security.
Sensitive content, not recommended for those under 18

I should be OK right?

But allowed nemo!
Possession and carry of a NFA registered machine gun is legal in GA but it certainly isn't covered by the GWCL.
Thanks everyone who participated and left disturbing irreversible memory damage with their pictures
