What night sight are you using on your 1911?

I have some Christmas cash to spend and I'm looking to replace the front sight (possibly both F&R) on my TRP. Currently it wears a Heinie rear (nice/solid + serrated) and a Dawson red fiber optic front (kinda flimsy looking and feeling). This setup is more for precision/competition shooting IMHO. I want something more EDC friendly.

That said, what night sights setups do ya'll favor/recommend?

Have you thought about the 10-8 performance gold dot? I've been mulling over moving my EDC Kimber Pro TLE to a gold dot front with a Heinie single dot ledged rear (or maybe just keeping my current trijicon front and changing only the rear).

I do like the idea of the gold/brass bead front sight though. Obviously it doesn't glow in the dark like a good night sight though.

Got any preferences of Meprolights versus Trijicon? Any reason you wouldn't look at those for a new front sight?
My Kimber has the Factory Meprolight sights.. I've been extremely happy with them shooting in the range and outdoors and when I've played with them at night. They glow all night and then some.

I also like the fact that they front post is "honed" and the rear sight is ramped for better cocking/snag freeness which I think was their intent on doing so.

+1 on the 10-8 sights for the 1911. I didn't put the ones that had the glow in the dark dots, but did install the back serrated ledge with the front brass bead sight. I believe he now makes them with night sights now. I liked the back sight ledge, because it would allow me to do a one handed cocking of the slide it I needed to.

Another thought would be the Harrison Customs Extreme Service T1 (1 lamp) or T2 (2 lamp) rear sight. I was looking at those as an option to the 10-8's, but he doesn't make them in Kimber dovetails. :(

Those sights are made to replace Bomar style sights like the ones put on Match style 1911s. They couldn't replace Novak style sights. I have been thinking about using their sight to replace my Bomar adjustable rear sight on my Springfield TGO II.

This is the Bomar style rear sight.

I also have the Dawson Precision front sight on the TGO II and I'm not crazy about it.

Not to hijack the tread here. But, I hope someone can give good comparison between tritium -vs- gold bead. I'm told that gold bead is more visible during day-light and does pretty well in low-light condition. :?:

For me, there is no doubt that the brass bead front sight I had on my RIA was superior to any night sight I have had on other 1911s. My eye is drawn to it easier than a tritium insert. It does very good for me in low light conditions. If its too dark to see the brass bead, its too dark to shoot without a flashlight to be able to verify the target.
Warren Tactical Sights. You'll need a shorter front sight (.175-.185 height) but they're excellent.
Hi All,

Wilson night sights on my Colt Officers model! Nice & BRIGHT!

One rear dot failed (dim) after four years. I called them & sent the slide to Wilson. They replaced the whole set! I had it back in a week!
Not a mark on the pistol & perfectly regulated!
:D
I would buy from Wilson again! :righton:

Best,

I like the Meprolights that came on my Kimber Pro TLE II better than the Trijicons I had Glock install on my G19. I also have CT's on both guns and like them over the night sights.

I also like the Meprolights on my TLE II. Great day time recognition and large tritium window. I also have Trijicons on my G23 and have found the tritium window to be a tad smaller and the white outline to be less recognizable in the day time than the Meprolights. Also, Glock's night sights look almost identical to Meprolights... I have those (Glock NS) on my G30.
