Basically, a hoplophobe is someone who is afraid of weapons.

In this season's first episode of the game/quiz/humor show "QI", host Stephen Fry read off a definition of a hoplophobe, which I reproduce here:

"An irrational fear of weapons, especially guns, usually occurring as a result of a liberal upbringing, or the fact that the person is just a wimp in general. Rather than deal with the fear, said hoplophobe will assign human characteristics to a weapon, e.g., 'guns are evil' or 'guns kill' to justify the fear rather than deal with the core problem of being a sissy."

(I cheerfully stole this from another forum I frequent...thought you guys would appreciate it!)

That quote is from the man who coined the word... Col. Jeff Cooper. I miss his writings!

Me too. He was one of the greatest philosophers on firearms and the associated rights.
