serious question:

If we have the technology today to have things like the Segway scooter, why can't we have a 3-wheeled car or even a 2-wheeled car
(front and back, along the center line) that has a couple of outrigger wheels like retractable landing gear?

When you begin a sharp turn, or ride along a very sloped road, or if a gust of wind starts tipping you over,
an on-board computer detects the problem and deploys the landing gear.
Then you will temporarly have 4 wheels-- the 2 permanent ones and the 2 retractable ones.
When you are riding fast on a fairly straight and level stretch of road you push a button and the gear retracts, fully or partially.
Then you're getting great fuel economy on just 2 wheels.
So the gear can only be raised by your command, but the gear will automatically (and very quickly) lower
whenever EITHER you deploy it OR the computer thinks its necessary.

British version of the show is better than the US version. Why does the US have to bastardize a UK show and screw it up?

The episode with the ReliantRobin is my wife's favorite episode.

As for the U.S. "version", :cantsay:.
For anyone who hasn't seen it (the U.S. show), just watch the last few minutes of the second episode (the "drift challenge" episode). The dog tells you everything you need to know.
