'Victims' pummel would-be robbers

Two home invasion suspects got more than they bargained for early Friday when they tried to rob several men at a Tara Boulevard mobile home park, police said.

According to Clayton County police, several Hispanic men were sitting outside a trailer at the Clayton Park Village at about 1:15 a.m. when two black males approached, one armed with a shotgun and the other with a handgun.

The suspects apparently intended to rob the victims, Deputy Chief Greg Porter said.

"During this attempt, the Hispanic males attacked both perpetrators, disarming them," Porter said. A single shot was discharged from the shotgun into the trailer, but none of the occupants were struck, he said.

The shotgun-toting suspect was held down by his intended victims until police arrived, while the second suspect managed to escape.

The arrested man was taken to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment of "multiple injuries," Porter said.

A search for the second suspect by police dogs revealed a blood trail leading to a nearby parking lot, Porter said, but no other arrest had been made late Friday morning.

Lucky Guys. I personally think a fully loaded FS92 or similar firearm would have helped. It is exceedingly dangerous to try to disarm two armed criminals. That being said, I congratulate them for getting the bad guys and refusing to be a victim. If you ask a LEO, they would invariably tell citizens not to do that, but to give them what they wanted. In the real world, and here recently, the bad guys shot the people behind the counter, even though they already had the money. One thing for sure, when this happens, you have a split second to decide what you are going to do. You have to assume they are going to use those weapons. If not, you could make a fatal mistake.
