It says that on the flyer -
This seminar is lecture based only and citizens are not required to bring anything.
Information packets will be provided to attendees.
Please do not bring any firearms or weapons to the seminar.

The effort of the Marietta PD is to be commended. I don't think they realize the amount of information they need to cover to do a proper trainig on the topics listed. The problem with this type of training is it only skims the surface of the material. It starts at 7pm and will go until 9pm (MY estimate). There is now way on earth the topics on the flyer can be covered to a suitable level of understanding in 2 hours. When I cover the law it takes a minimum of 2 hours without questions.
I will try to make this to see just what they do.

I wish they'd do something like this where I live, but I live in the P(eople's) R(epublic) of D(ekalb) where it takes 6 months to get a GWL. :x

This sounds like a great effort by the Marietta P.D. to reach out to the gun-owning public and offer them some good information.
If I'm able, I'll come by on the 11th. I lived in May-Retta for many years.

If it goes well, let's all be sure to thank Chief Dan Flynn for allowing it and to Sgt. Jake King for arranging it and conducting the training.

Just put it down on my calendar.. I'm a bit anxious to hear what the MPD has to say about weapons law.

This is a great move on their part!! With the time allowed here I am sure that there will not be anything in depth but it is a good start. They may be testing the waters to see how much interest there is. If there is a lot of interest they may expand their program. I am going to be there.

i suggest that folks that attend the session not try to "show up" the officers there by arguing every little nuance of the law, especially to show what they don't know, and bringing up everything elsewhere that has gone wrong. Also remember that Marietta and Cobb PD are distinctly separate agencies that answer to distinctly different chains of command.

Build a bridge for future positive interaction.

There's a new sheriff in town (or more to the point, a new Chief of DKPD) - William O'Brien. He might be more receptive to a program like this than his predecessor, Terrell Bolton. I'll send him a copy of this to see if DKPD would be interested in a similar 'community outreach' effort.

My letter and a copy of the MPD announcement are going out to Chief O'Brien in today's mail . . . we'll see if anything comes of it.

That is assuming that they know what they would be talking about. Some of those few hour seminars are only disguised sales pitch for pepper sprays.

This.

Nobody seems to get it right (me either), and its likely that there will be an error or two in their interpretation of GA gun law, but I think it will reflect a lot better on us if we withhold what, if any, criticisms we have until after the event.

Would that be during an OC get together afterwards at the Marietta Diner?
I would be up that. Anyone else?
