Tonight, on my way to work, I saw one of those temp electronic billboards on the side of the road on GA400 (like what they use to notify you of road construction) saying that tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 26th, from 6am to 1pm (I think) they will be doing "Traffic Pacing" and to expect delays.

WTH are they talking about? What is traffic pacing? And what is the point?

    Anyone?

The billboard was just before the MARTA exit, southbound on GA400.

They will sometimes "pace" traffic if there will be on and off construction/road crews working. They will line police cars accross all lanes and drive a set speed (say 35 mph) through a work area while equipment is being moved on the roadside, thereby setting the pace of traffic for a few moments at a time, as needed.

Theye did some of this when they were stringing the cable barrier in the median.

patrol cars get in each travel lane and set the "pace" for traffic following them. It allows work crews ahead of the paced vehicles to stretch power or utility lines typically.
It's no big deal, it does delay traffic

It probably has to do with the construction for the new exit they are putting in where Hammond Dr crosses 400.
