i'd thought things had gotten to the point of it just being cheaper to replace bad boards. i guess not. and i didn't realize just how small what he was working on was until he brought out that clamp, lol. impressive.
Component level repair can be rather challenging. Sometimes, a sensitive part will go bad because another part is marginal. You replace the sensitive part, it works, then goes bad again in a short time. Turns out you have to backtrack further. I have no patience for this - I just replace the board.
