Canadian Man Survives Suicide Attempt by Chaining Self to Tree
Wednesday, August 01, 2007
A man found chained to a tree in British Columbia, Canada, was not looking to save the forest from destruction — he was trying to commit suicide, officials said.
The man was found alive Tuesday evening in West Vancouver, British Columbia, after chaining himself to a tree in a remote area six days earlier, police told the Canadian Press. Officials are calling his act a bizarre suicide attempt.
The man was discovered when hikers, who were looking for their lost dog, heard cries for help, CP reported.
Authorities could not initially reach the area where the 48-year-old man was trapped but were able to airlift him to safety after launching a rescue operation. He was hospitalized but police say he doesn't have life-threatening injuries.
