Gun loving folk
Rifles and pistols form part of a deep-rooted Swiss tradition.

Whether it's the militia army, the federal shooting competiton or a spontaneous volley of gunfire to express joy, guns are part of the Swiss heritage. And many people associate them with historical battles rather than with killings and crime.

Switzerland has not been invaded in either world war. There is a lot to be said for neutrality and a strong militia.

The Swiss love guns so much that getting a carry permit to be able to defend yourself is almost exclusively reserved for people who need it for their jobs (such as security personnel) and almost impossible for the average citizen. You can (without a permit) transport it directly to or from specific locations as long as you can't possibly be able to use it and a permit is required just to buy a gun (whether from a dealer or private citizen) and you need a separate permit for each gun you buy. Ammo's not much better, you only have to register that you bought it (unless using it at the range you buy it at).

They love guns as long as you only plan to use them for fun or military practice anyway...

Traditionally, the Swiss Cantons had few firearm regulations. The first federal firearms law was recently enacted. Certain firearm purchases require a permit, and others do not. On retirement, every soldier may keep his rifle or pistol. Surplus assault rifles may be purchased by any Swiss citizen from the Military Department.
Interesting fact about William Tell I did not know in there.

This is exactly what America was SUPPOSED TO BE, its the way the founders set us up, and wanted us to be. Now look at us. We've had more Unconstitutional wars than I care to remember.

There is something to be said about a country that has never been invaded. That's called respect.

I don't think the US will need to be invaded to fall... our politicians are taking care of that all on their own.

They were not neutral. Myth, repeated ad nauseum. Fortunately, the internet will one day lay that one to rest.
