This is a good overview of the political landscape, I think. I kind of hate how the gun issue is getting more pushed into a corner of being a “Republican” issue and an attitude of “if only Americans could come to their senses”, which is the tone of this article. But it's still a good read.

Democrats are really good at projection. Not so good at empathy. Most "grassroots" organizations on the left are actually Astroturf. Well-funded initiatives coordinated via national marketing campaigns. We are familiar with Bloomberg's Mad Momz, but pretty much all groups on the left are the same. The Tides Foundation is one of the biggest incubators that either founds "movements" or co-opts them. They just purchased BLM from Thousand Currents, another such organization. Therefore, Democrats assume that all public interest organizations are fake and manipulative. That is why they failed to grasp the Tea Party movement. Incidentally, the Tides Foundation uses its tax-exempt status so that its front organizations never have to wait on IRS approval like true grassroots organizations on the right were forced to do. They assume that the gun rights movement will collapse without the continued existence of the NRA, because they know their "gun safety" movement is a fraud.. They are fundamentally incapable of understanding that the NRA is an expression of the movement, not an artificial cause.

With the recent armed protests and defund movements...the gun control movement is going to start catching friendly fire on the left for sure. As is, there may only be one voice in 30-40 asking for gun control at local party meetings and that’s often a paid shill not local to the polling places represented. A pair of concerned neighbors or parents at local Democrat party meetings would drastically undermine gun control efforts.

My $0.02, your mileage may vary, don’t believe everything you read on the internet, yadda.
