The Absurd World of Agriculture Subsidies

I've argued that HUD should be the first to go, but I may change my mind in favor of the Department of Agriculture.

President-elect Donald Trump’s vow to “drain the swamp†in Washington could begin with the Agriculture Department … Farmers will receive twice as much of their income from handouts (25%) this year as they did in 2013, according to the USDA … big farmers snare the vast majority of federal handouts. According to a report released this year by the Environmental Working Group … “the top 1 percent of farm subsidy recipients received 26 percent of subsidy payments between 1995 and 2014.†The group’s analysis of government farm-subsidy data also found that the “top 20 percent of subsidy recipients received 91 percent of all subsidy payments.â€

I have no problem with farmers getting rich, but let them
earn it themselves through hard work and innovation.

Sure, very hard to do honestly in any century, dishonest, yep, we're seeing it
And then look who the Secretary of Agriculture is...................
Farming didn't seem like a good way to earn a living when I was a kid. These days I don't seen any poor or struggling farmers anymore.
Remember those folks who got money claiming they were farmers ? They had some house plants.

And look at who gets the sugar tariff benefit. All super rich folks.
I have an aquaintance who has a 'pecan orchard' at his home, to write off his truck, the property ( a very nice home on 10 acres shared with his father), and his hobby of restoring old tractors. Mind you, this is he same guy who royally screwed his ex-wife in their divorce because EVERYTHING is in the name of a llc under his father.
And hence the primary reason we are all practically forced to burn ethanol in our engines.

It's a racket. Caused by corruption.

Unless we want to drive further and pay more money to the few companies that sell ethanol-free gasoline.

Your acquaintance has not yet had an audit. When and if he does, he is going to be one sad puppy.
