I've heard several instances like this over the years. Dogs walking in the backseat of somebody's car or the bed of somebody's truck... where the hunter has just put down a loaded rifle or shotgun... the critter steps on the trigger...BOOM

And it happened again. Need to better train your dog. Also unload or at least clear the chamber before you lay it down in the back of the truck.

This happened several years ago too. Only one person and the dog involved. The dog in it's excitment to get out ran across the gun shot and killed the owner the owner.

...or have enough sense to use a safety.

You lay it down or stand it in a corner or hang it in a rack you sure ought to at least clear the chamber.
