Suppressor guys

I have an AR 5.56, .22 upper, and a .22 pistol. What would be a good can that would work well on all three of them?

From my understanding, you can use a 5.56 suppressor on a 22. However it's generally not recommended because .22 is extremely dirty and will clog up 5.56 suppressor a lot faster.

I don't own a suppressor (yet) but I was looking at that question the other day...I'm planning on just getting a .22 suppressor.

Really, you need at least two cans. As Nothclif mentions, .22 ammo can really dirty up and damage your .223/5.56 suppressor.

I have a similar collection of guns and I ended up getting three cans. One AAC M4-2000 for my AR-15. An SWR Spectre for my Ruger 10/22 and Charger, plus an AAC Pilot for my Walther P22. The Spectre can be disassembled and cleaned, unlike the others. There is also a youtube video of someone running a full mag, full-auto, out of an AR-15/M-16 through the Spectre, but that is pushing it beyond it's design limits.

I would recommend the Spectre if you can only afford one, because it is rated for other calibers than .22LR (.17, .22mag, 5.7mm).
can you not take a suppressor apart and clean it?

Depends on the design.

This.
Dude, just get two different suppressors. One in .22lr and the other in 5.56. You gotta pay to play on this if you want to be happy long term.

I'd get the .22lr suppressor first. Those are the ones that can be really quiet. If you like it, save up and get the 5.56 one. As for 5.56 suppressors, don't expect them to be super quiet.
If you anticipate only shooting a few .22LR rounds through your .223 silencer, that's fine. Get the big can rated for the high-pressure rifle rounds. I'm not sure how will it will work on the little .22 pistol because of all the extra weight, though.

But I chose to get only a .22LR silencer, and only use it on .22 LR firearms, even though I have .223 weapons as well. I'll buy a different can some other day for those guns.

P.S. My AAC pilot does not come apart for cleaning, but the dealer who sold it to me says that if I ever shoot it enough to actually fill it with lead and ruin it with leading in a way that it can't be cleaned out while assembled, the factory (here in Gwinnett County, Georgia) will repair or replace it. But he said it would take cases and cases of ammo to do this, and by then you'll be able to feel how much heavier the silencer is.
you gotta shoot CASES and CASES of 22 lr to lead a .22 can to the point where it doesn't function....I know of a SWR can that have almost 10 ounces of lead and gun in it before the owner sent it back...and quite frankly, it was still quiet and didn't NEED to be sent back.
I have a SWR warlock sealed can, and that baby is QUIET....I own 2 .22 take apart cans....and I never take them apart (MIte and Spectre)
I have two 7.62 SD AAC cans that I run on my .223/308 rifles....
I have a AAC Evo that I have on my 9mm's (XD and Glock)

I can't PROVE it, but I am willing to be 3 or 4 mags of 5.56 ammo would clean out most any 5.56 can that was used reasonably on a .22 LR....the 5.56 can is just bigger and heavier than necessary on a .22 LR...just as my 7.62 can is on my 5.56...but it works just fine, and I am not tied down to one caliber..
Hey Sheriff how effective is the 7.62 can shooting 5.56 compared to a dedicated 5.56 can?

I'm thinking of getting a rifle can and just realized how nice it would be to only buy one for my different calibers.
TO MY EAR, it is about the same....the 7.62 can is heavier, and for an AR it helps to have it SBR since you don't have all that weight out in front of the gun.....but it works just fine....it is certainly as hearing safe as any dedicated 5.56 can
