I didn't want to mess up the Current Bills thread, so I am putting this here since it is related to GA Politics-

State Rep. Matt Gurtler has made the news twice in the last week. He is also GGO's guy and the main Legislator for their Constitutional Carry Bill (permitless carry)

Rep. Charles Gregory and Rep. Sam Moore all over again.

Believes in free market, opposes government subsidies, claims "threat" when the offer to eliminate said subsidies is extended.

It seems HB 156 won't be moving this year.

That bill was dead after he was the only member of the House to vote against the amended budget. He's only been in office a month and has already made enemies. Not a very auspicious beginning to a legislative career. The sad part is, he will now be of no use or benefit to his constituents who sent him there. Voters tend to consider that at election time.

It probably didn't help that Patrick Parsons got escorted out of the Capital yesterday by GSP.

I heard that him and Heath Clark got into it, but Parson's version is that it was all Clark. Maybe that's the impetus needed to ban him (Parsons) from the buildings.

Parsons had given out Heath Clark's personal cell number to his GGO email mailing list, basically rendering his phone useless. This was done in reference to getting Heath Clark to schedule a up or down vote on GGO's Con Carry bill.

Earlier in the day.....Parsons had sent out another GGO email claiming Senator Tyler Harper was Anti 2A for cosigning SB 99 the GCIC & NCICs reporting bill. Parsons had never met Harper, and asked him to step outside the Gun Hearing yesterday and introduced himself to Harper. Harper got really agitated about the lies and distortions GGO was putting out about him.

So both Tyler Harper and then Heath Clark were giving Parsons a piece of their mind in the hallway outside the meeting.

Heath Clark used to have very friendly relations with GGO. I think he was even a member. What a bonehead move by Parsons to alienate an ally like that.

They have given out personal cell phone numbers to membership before.

I bet Clark is regretting ever getting involved with Parsons. Patrick's new pal, Gurtler, saw his bill go into the shredder at sub-comm. hearing while Clark's HB286 moved on to full committee, as did HB280 (campus carry). Parson's will turn all of this into ballast to ring the cash register

UPDATE- HB286 was TABLED. No action on 156. $$$$ for Parsons.

So Patrick Parsons says there was no vote on HB 286 (breathlessly) and they are trying to kill it.

Andy says it moved on to full committee.

I think I am going to take Andy's word over Patrick's.

I have posted in error. HB286 was tabled. The only bills moving to full committee were HB280, HB292. My apologies. On this one, Parson's is correct and I'm man enough to say so. Both permitless carry bills were left behind (which I think is a huge mistake that will have consequences).

Gurtler continues to make all the wrong enemies. A friend is on the board for the Northeast Georgia Realtors and they had a pre-arranged meet by the ropes with him during Realtor day and he sent a messenge out that he would be 10 min. late. 20 min. later, still no Gurtler. Someone went up to the gallery to spot him on the floor. They saw him leaned up against the wall, by himself, typing on his phone. They were not impressed. Some of his constituents from his district got up at 4am and drove their child down to serve as a page. He never bothered to show for the complimentary picture with his page and the speaker, no doubt leaving a lasting impression on that student...and his/her parents....and their friends....who vote. His tenure will be short lived pulling this kind of stuff.
