I understand from reports of others, that it is a very backwards sort of thing.

“a little-known fundamentalist Christian sect . . . primarily based in the rural sections of the South and Appalachia.â€

. . . average educational level among members of the church is below the 12th grade, and that an “educated†person among us is “an anomaly.â€

. . . charges that “they make being a member of their church co-extensive with being a Christian.â€

Our Methodist friend contends we teach that the “only way to avoid damnation is to repent, be baptized, and joinâ€"and be accepted intoâ€"[our] denomination.â€

“Like other fundamentalist sects, the Church of Christ’s teaching focuses heavily upon sexual conduct.â€

Source for the above nonsense Sort of conjures up images of one toothed gun-toting hillbillies, doesn't it?

As to my particular religion, into which you inquired, it is important to be able to identify the church of the New Testament.
Like I said, I didn't want to sound offensive about this. I guess that the church I attend calls our undershepheard, Pastor. We are baptist based with a little pentecostle mix. So I guess we're bapticostle.
No matter how you want to say it, it's still ignorance gone to seed(refering to the original article).

As far as snaking handling goes, I believe th good LORD gives us common sense too.
The problem is with so many sincere religious people out there teaching that miracles are something ocurring in the modern day. They are sincere, but misguided, and have never really chosen (most of them anyway) to devote any serious time to studying what God's word has to say on the subject.

That is why the title of that article was Sincere But Wrong: Dead Wrong.

If this guy was running after you in the parking lot of a mall screaming incoherent threats about God's judgment on people who carry guns, would you be justified in shooting?

:D

How is that for back on topic ("snake brandishing")?

Malum,
I don't want to start another debate here, but could you explain this statement? Or maybe I am looking at this and you didn't write it.
If you would rather PM to me that is fine. :-k

I will be the first one to say that GOD does perform miracles today just like HE did 2000 years ago. I have seen them in my own life. Would you place your hand on a red hot stove burner and expect not to get burned? Could GOD stop you from getting burned if HE wanted to? Yes HE could.

It's all interpretation. You see it as an act of god, I see it as an act by his holiness the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and others still say it was nothing at all and you're just putting your own bias on a situation.

Good thing America lets us believe in nonsensical things, like FSMs.

True. That's why GOD gave us each the ability to make our own decisions in life on this earth. But I will get down to the nitty, gritty here. It will not be the FSM that sends me to heaven nor will it be the FSM for those who will be sent to hell. It doesn't matter to me how others view me. I know that the world will be against me. Jesus himself said that it would be.

Who said he could not? Me? If so, quote it from above. That is a strawman argument, I think. What I mean is - what you stated, whether God could, is irrelevant to whether he would.

Miracles in the modern day? Sure. Let me ask you a question first. This is not biblically based, but merely your observation. Ever seen anybody raised form the dead? How about an ear instantaneously re-attached. Ever see any non-disputable miracle? The kind that everybody present would affirm was miraculous and nobody would deny?

The miracles Jesus did were of that sort. Even his enemies did not deny the miracles, but attributed them to Satan rather than God.

(1) Ever see any like that?

(2) What is the purpose of a miracle in the New Testament?

That first question is simple common sense, which, I assume you affirm God wants you to use.

The second question will begin to get us into the biblical portion of answering your question, since that should be the answer that matters to you. I will simply assume this matters to you, on the basis of the question you asked (as you probably would not have asked if you did not care about what God's word has to say on the subject).
