Check it out: CNN today, sorry I don't know how to link.
SUNBURY, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A woman accused of holding police at bay by brandishing poisonous snakes was sentenced to house arrest and probation.

"I just wasn't in the right frame of mind that night," said Terry Jackson, 36, at her sentencing Monday.

Officers were trying to prevent the despondent woman from harming herself with a hunting knife when the confrontation took place October 25, police said.

Jackson picked up two western diamondback rattlesnakes, a pigmy rattlesnake and two copperheads to try to keep police from taking her into custody, authorities said.

Jackson, who was raising the snakes for laboratories, received several bites during the standoff and was taken to a hospital after police subdued her with a stun gun.

The snakes were later donated to a zoo in Hershey.

Jackson pleaded no contest in March to one count of reckless endangerment. She was sentenced to two years' probation and will spend the first six months of her sentence under house arrest. She must also receive drug and alcohol counseling.

She said she was beset by alcohol abuse and family problems and had wanted to kill herself.

If she wanted to kill herself she should have saved everyone their time and money and do the respectable thing by blowing her brains out.

This article used to have a great picture of a guy (now deceased from snakebite) holding up a huge timber rattlesnake, but it seems to have disappeared.
What is interesting is the bible says tread, not pick up. I have tread on several rattle snakes, usually it's during the opening days of deer season because it is still warm. I guess I don't have much faith because I where 24" snake boots until the first hard frost.
As my pastor say's "that's ignorance gone to seed".

No, it says they shall "take up." Mark 16:18, but that has no application to you or your "pastor" (whatever that is) or to the modern age.

here we go again
Ramm,
I am not going to explain or have any rebutle to any one on this subject. I placed the article in this way so everybody could at the least have fun with the idea of brandishing a snake is illegal. I hope no one has been offended at this because if you read the article, no snakes where hurt during this altercation. :rotfl:

Not commenting about the article, just about MP's disdain for [specific] religions.

Malum,
I certainly don't want to offend you by this statement but are you catholic or a denomination that do not have clergy as pastors?
pas·tor (păs'tər)
n.
A Christian minister or priest having spiritual charge over a congregation or other group.
A layperson having spiritual charge over a person or group.
A shepherd.

My pastor happens to be my best friend that I've known for many years. But out of respect for his position at our church he is my pastor.

Before this gets out of control in the religious arguments I want to leave it alone.

Nope. (nor am I offended - how can I be offended by a curious question?) :D

I think denominations are sinful - I am beyond nondenominational - I am anti-denominational. I also see no warrant in the New Testament for "clergy," as distinct from the "layperson." There is neither command, authority, or an implicit assertion, or, for that matter, even a necessary inference from the text to support this manmade distinction.

Which verse is that?

Although there is a term "pastor" that is sometimes described as "shepard" (bishop, elder, depending on the translation you use), there is no authority in the New Testament for any one person exercising this authority over a congregation. Congregations of the Lord's church in the New Testament (i.e., in the first century A.D., when there was only one church, and men were acting under direct inspiration) were each lead locally by a plurality of elders meeting very strict qualifications. See 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9.

I adhere to the New Testament pattern, but not manmade traditions and offices, such as the Catholic and denominational religions you mentioned.

I am not sure what this means, in terms of why he is your pastor, but I am sure both you and he are sincere.

It ought not to "get out of control." You asked questions, and I answered them. :D

You made no personal attacks on me. I made no personal attacks on you.

I sincerely doubt I will become your enemy simply answering your questions in an honest and forthright manner. :D
