Looking at getting a new carry gun. I've been curious about the .357 sig for sometime.

Wanted to see what others thought.

Love it! Best caliber out there. Go with Underwood ammo. For some reason, most ammo makers water down their 357 SIG offerings—not Underwood. The other thing about 357 SIG is you can switch to 40S&W with a simple barrel swap for two guns in one. Uses the same magazines and everything. Sig even marks their mags "357SIG / 40S&W".
Been looking at the p320 for a little while. Looked more last night after seeing the Army chose it. One thing I don't like about the p320 is the width in the middle(35mm vs 30mm on G19, I reckon to be able to accommodate the drop in swap-able trigger group) Also the bore axis height.... Mag prices

Heck one review pitted it agin the VP9 and even though the reviewer seemed to like the Sig I came away liking the VP9 better, but running the numbers agin a G19 I can't say I'd swap. I do acknowledge the quality/feel is better on HK/Sig over a Glock.
I have a P320 in 9mm and love it. Everybody complains about the cost of the P320 out of the box compared to a comparable Glock, but having to replace the trigger, sights and other components on the Glock to make them usable, is it really cheaper in the long run?

5mm (or .25") is really a big problem? Don't really think 1/4 inch is that big of deal when you add all the extra thickness of any holster it is in to consideration.

I also think bore axis from a technical/physics standpoint is a poor excuse not to buy a gun. I personally think nobody can tell a difference when shooting different bore axis guns because there are just too many variables between gun types to properly evaluate. Now, if you don't like the way a gun looks because of high bore axis, that is a different story altogether and a legitimate reason not to like a certain gun as I feel you have to like the way a gun looks. Me personally, I thinks Glocks are ugly and wouldn't have one for that reason alone (but they also don't feel good in my hand).

The reasons I bought the P320 are as follows;
-Trigger was amazing. I don't like many of the guns with the trigger safety like Glocks have (I personally think this is a useless feature and is no real safety at all).
-Feels natural to hold in my hand and is comfortable to hold.
-I like the way it looks (along with other Sigs which I don't have but want).

Although I knew the trigger assembly came out and I thought that was intriguing before I bought it, I found taking the assembly out to clean the gun makes things really easy in that you can really get down into the component so much more easily with it out of the gun frame.

Just a few thoughts.

I'm also a guy that likes the way SIGs look. The higher bore axis is aesthetically more pleasing to the eye, but I can't feel any difference when shooting it.

The P320 has a great trigger. It's honestly the first striker fired platform I've even considered purchasing.
I need a P320 but it means I've got to sell one of my 4 other Sig's. Painful !
Sig P320 is going to be my next pistol (9mm most likely) - you just can't beat the modularity of the firearm. And, apparently, it has no been adopted by the US Army as their official pistol.

You really should buy two. Give me one before you shoot yours and I will give you an unbiased review.:drink:
Honestly I've wanted to get into .357 for awhile myself. It's just so darn expensive!

I had a P320 Compact for some time and honestly liked it overall. Only reason I got rid of it was to get back to the P229.

Curious as to how the P320 would hold up to the .357 round over extensive use.

Did you mean to say it has YES been adopted by the US Army as their official pistol?

Huh? How is it too expensive? Unless, you don't know how to order ammo online....

$15 per box of 50 rounds.

Isn't the whole modular concept to this pistol meaning you can also convert it to 9mm and .45 ACP, in addition to the two calibers you listed?
Why don't they make a 10mm? Frame can't take it?
Why aren't the FDE military versions out for sale yet?
Why is the full size .45 magazine limited to 10 rounds when the 9mm is 21 rounds? .40 and .357 are 14 rounds.
I shot a few rounds of a .357 Sig at a range-- traded pistols with the guy in the lane next to me at a shooting range.
It seemed fine. Like a .357 magnum revolver. Too much recoil for a compact concealed-carry gun, but it should be great in a larger sized pistol.

I really like the idea of a necked-down cartridge for a self-defense handgun, due to the fact that the opening in the chamber for the bullet to slide into will be much larger than the bullet, so if the bullet is a millimeter out of alignment, it will still find the hole and get stuffed in. This should improve feeding and reliability.

P.S. I assume that with only a barrel swap, you could shoot .40 S&W through it? I'd definitely get that extra barrel, in case .357 Sig ammo becomes expensive or temprorarily unavailable in your area.
Maybe also for less-expensive target practice, if you're going to be burning through thousands of rounds a year. I'm not seeing an $15/ 50 round boxes of ammo in my quick Google search. It's more like $20/ box.

25 cents / round vs. 40 cents, each being cheap FMJ range ammo.

After shooting 5000 rounds of .40, you'd have saved $75.... which is still probably only half the cost of a replacement barrel.... OKAY, so the math doesn't work out on saving money. But you would get better ammo availability!

Frame is too short front to back to handle 10mm.

This. The COAL for 9mm, 40 and 357 are all about the same. 45 and 10mm are about the same COAL.

Wait, isn't the .45 a part of this modular gun lineup? If so, then the COAL issue is not the issue.
