Frickin gangs, most likely idiot parents and of course the great laws that keep this kind of thing from happening.Car with students struck but no one was injured, one arrest made .
Garden City Police are investigating a Monday afternoon shooting in front of Groves High School.
It happened at approximately 2:45 p.m. as students were being released from classes. No one was injured, but a vehicle was struck three times.
As many as 10 shots are thought to have been fired, said Garden City Police Chief David Lyons.
Lyons said a car with four occupants, two of whom were Groves students, was parked on Wheathill Road in front of the 500 Building at Groves High as classes were dismissed.
The vehicle accelerated as a group of youths walked toward it on Cooper Lane.
Someone in the group fired at the silver Honda Accord, striking it three times. Seven rounds struck the school's brick building.
"No one was injured, but the students were scared half out of their wits," said Bucky Burnsed, Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools spokesman.
Lyons said one juvenile, not thought to be the shooter, is in custody. The shooter, he said, remains at large.
A description was not immediately available.
"We take a dim view of anyone who would put our students in harm's way," Burnsed said.
"We're obviously focused on the safety of our children. We're going to work with Garden City to help identify these suspects and see that they are prosecuted.
