Police say they are searching for several gunmen following a shooting in northwest Atlanta.

Atlanta police said when they arrived at the Rolling Bends Apartments, several people were involved in a gun battle.

Cox told Huddleston the people holed up in the day care center saw a man with an assault rifle.

“She visibly saw a young fellow walking through the neighborhood with an AK-47, walking through the neighborhood,†Cox said.

I'm guessing gang, but no description.

Pickard tweeted that Hightower Road at Center Street could be blocked as the search continued for "multiple gunmen."

"Just a whole bunch of shots like we was in war with someone, people screaming, people hiding and running," said concerned parent Shareka Brazier.

As investigators continue to piece together how the shootout played out, they can confirm that the gun battle took place through several block, forcing police to shut down a large portion of the Carey Park neighborhood.

Police said they are looking into if this was an isolated incident and if it was gang related. Some residents who did not want to be named said they believe this incident is connected to a dispute between rival groups which have been clashing on the street over the past few weeks. Police have not yet confirmed those concerns.
