HIAWASSEE -- Towns County Sheriff Rudy Eller was arrested Tuesday in connection with a drive-by shooting that already landed two of his deputies in jail.
Eller is charged with tampering with evidence, making false statements, obstruction, hindering the apprehension of a criminal and violation of his oath of office.
Two of his deputies were arrested in the case earlier this month.
Eller turned himself in to GBI agents at 10 a.m. today at the White County Detention Center in Cleveland in northeast Georgia.
All of the charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 9, 2007 during which gunshots were fired into a residence in Hiawassee.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent John Cagle says 41-year-old Towns County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Eddie Osborn and 56-year-old Deputy Jessie Gibson are accused of shooting into the house. He says about ten shots were fired into the house.
