Went down to help my dad clean up storm damage this weekend and took some pictures. These are just a few pictures but it looks like this all over the county. Keep in mind they are 120 miles inland 20181103_131329.jpeg 20181103_122314.jpeg 20181103_122421.jpeg 20181103_131421.jpeg 20181103_122454.jpeg

My dads place was tore up but not totaled. At least per the insurance standards. We keep hoping that the tree leaning over the place falls.

Probably so it will be considered a total

The tree falling on it at this time would more than likely not cause a total. Since the current damage has already been put as a claim it will have to be a separate claim which means a separate deductible as well. Also if the tree is not removed in it's current state it may not even be covered by the insurance if it does fall. Insurance companies don't usually cover damage caused by dead trees or known hazardous trees. While it may or may not total the structure it could rest on the owner to cover the cost in full out of their own pocket.

Just something to consider while hoping it will continue to fall.

This. Damage caused by a known and ignored hazard is normally considered negligence and is not coverable.

It’s the responsibility of an insured person to to protect property from further damage after a loss occurs.

The agent told them if it falls soon they would consider it part of the original storm damage.

As someone who just took the courses to be licensed as a Claims Adjuster in Georgia, let me tell you that he needs a more informed agent.

I haven't taken the exam or the course but I do have many years dealing with insurance companies as a contractor when it comes to storm damage and damage due to negligence. Such as falling dead or hazardous trees. IF they are lucky enough to get the same adjuster the insurance company will more than likely deny the claim anyway. Getting a different adjuster will most assuredly get them denied on the claim. Adjusters are very busy after this storm. The odds of getting the same one are marginally better than winning the lottery.

Thank you. I’m not directly in the insurance business. My company sells and adjudicates automotive extended service contracts and warranties. Our contracts are backed by contractual liability policies, and our backing insurers require a certain number of us to hold adjusters licenses.

Dayum, you two are about as short in the deck as lawyers. Anyone in the law or insurance business is a minumum half dozen cards short to get into it.

I been there. I am in recovery from it.

But you still know exactly what I refer to. You may only be 2 or 3 short instead of half a dozen.
