So I OC into Perimeter Mall(inside belt holster with tucked in shirt), walk around for a bit with my GF and the security guard approaches me.

Guard(G): Are you in law inforcement?
Me(M): No
G: Do you have a license for that pistol?
M: Yes I do.
G: Is it an open carry permit?
M: It's a GFL
G: You have to have an OC permit to OC.
M: Ok.
G: This is also a public gathering where you cannot carry.
M: I didn't know a mall was considered a public gathering.
G: Yes it is, I'll need you to put the pistol in your car.
M: Ok

That was a summary of more words that were said but the others were un-important to the point. It was a painless encounter but can I legally CC in a mall? I think the public gathering is no longer a law now and now they just have a list of places you cannot carry if I'm not mistaken(SB308).

I do know that it's any businesses right to ask a OC person to leave but I want to know if I was breaking the law or not? I don't think I was. Can I CC in the future at Malls or no?

Thanks!

Dave

no such thing as a public gathering anymore...also malls wernt public gatherings according to the attorney general...you are legal to carry there but they can enforce their will concerning their property

And your GFL (GWL) is an open carry license as well as a concealed carry license.

Would you mind telling us what kind of clothes you were wearing, how old you are/look, and what your race is? I've OCed in Perimeter several times without anyone mentioning it.

As "private property owners", they can ask you to leave, and you must or face criminal trespass charges. I don't care if you have a full basket. Leave it in the aisles, and find the nearest exit.

In the future CC! It is not illegal to carry in the mall. Many businesses there, like Dick's, support your right to carry. It's the mall ninjas who do not know the law.

Might be worth having a copy of SB-308 to hand to them next time. It might not keep you from being escorted to the door, but it can't hurt to educate anybody. As long as you comply, you can not be charged!

As others have said, "public gatherings" are a dead issue, thanks to SB-308, and the efforts of GeorgiaCarry.org! No thanks to the NRA who lobbied against it.

If you're not a GCO member, give it serious thought. We need member support!

I was also 30 when I went bald. I always said it was from making U-turns under the sheets.

I actually came on here to further put myself at peace to carry during a Pine Mountain Trail hike tomorrow morning. I'll be out there getting in shape for a hike up LeConte Mtn. in TN in January(go every year) where I carry as well.

From what I get all state parks you can carry in. I'm not entirely sure about fed parks. (not exacty sure what a fed park is).

You are good to go on your trip tomorrow.
Search "LeConte" on here as there is some news on here about it.

State Parks are good to go even the buildings in Georgia.
National Parks are good to go but not in the buildings, that is so in any state. You may carry in a National Park in any state that reciprocates Georgia's license, if that's what license you have. One thing about National Parks: you must follow the rules of the state you are in.

Here is a map of the National Parks in Georgia. http://www.nps.gov/state/ga/index.htm

Edit: I tried to make my post clearer....

Edit 2: Here is the LeConte thread I spoke of: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=48736&p=675311&hilit=leconte#p675311

You have been most helpful. Thanks!

I have carried up LeConte in Jan 2009. I knew all buildings were off limits to the carry of the weapon.

Thanks for your help!

It happened after I went into Zara with my GF. I'm not sure if some rich woman got scared or something and told security or what. I think it was abouit 6 minutes after entrance to Zara and about 20 minutes after browsing the mall.

That N.Y. Times news article didn't mention that James Calvin Brady was a black man who thought he had a machine in his stomach that make him seek out and kill white people.
He chose Perimeter Mall so that he could find a high concentration of white victims to murder.
So much for the "mad gunman on a rampage? Must be a white male!" theory that so many belive in.

I talked at length with Melanie Musick (spelling?) the young woman whose husband was killed in that attack, a couple weeks after it happened. She was not against guns generally, but wanted a waiting period so background checks could be done so nuts who had just been de-institutionalized could not buy guns at the first pawn shop or gun store they walked to after being released from the insane asylum.
