    Phil, your article's title says:

I remember Florida Carry doing these "open carry fishing" events since at least 2010. Your article should clarify that it's the first OC event for Region 5, not statewide. Otherwise people will get the impression that this is the first time this has ever been done in Florida.

I also recalled this little incident that happened at a Tampa OC fishing event in 2015. Cop tried to sneak up on an open carry fisherman and take his gun from behind. Don't know if you're familiar with it.

Anyone know the status of the litigation? Being only 3 years old and in FL its probably about halfway through the system.

And.... Open Carry Florida held another "fishing while armed" event at a public pier, and all of them were raided by police at gunpoint and taken down like dangerous felons.
But, they were released after some time (an hour? Two?) after their guns were checked, their licenses were checked, and the cops were educated about the law and the exception for fishing.

Is it too much to expect that police in Miami will know the law, and know that there is a "while fishing" exception to the open carry ban?
Or did the cops know all along, and just do this to bully and harass the law-abiding gun advocates who chose to poke the bear?

They should begin doing it every weekend, and see if they can get more persons to show, until the local police get the point.

It would be better if the NRA and the USF (Marion Hammer) get the point and stop impeding open carry legislation and really get behind it.

Marion Hammer, executive director of United Sportsmen of Florida, responded to criticism of Senate Bill 300 and its companion in the House, HB 163, in her Nov. 1 column that was posted on the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action website.

"Forty-five (45) states allow open carry of firearms," she wrote. "Varying restrictions on open carry in some states does not alter the fact that 45 states allow open carry."

Hammer was refuting Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, who is the Florida Sheriffs Association Legislative Committee chairman. Gualtieri, whose group opposes the bills, previously told the Palm Beach Post it's not really accurate to say those 45 states allow open carry because there are various rules and restrictions on the practice.

PolitiFact Florida decided to get to the bottom of just how many states let people openly carry guns in public.

That's nice. Hammer can say whatever she wants to in print but it doesn't change the fact that the NRA & Hammer are still the biggest impediments to passing OC in Florida. She and I had it out back in 2011 when she bestowed upon me the title of "Rude Open Carry Blogger" in an Ammoland article. She was promptly dogpiled by lots of commenters for her hypocrisy.
