Has anyone here swapped the barrel on a Ruger 10/22? How hard is it to do? It' smy understanding that most of the aftermarket stocks are a "drop in" installation, and I have changed the stock on a rifle before, but I've never done a barrel swap. IF I get a 10/22, am I better off gettin gone with a .920 bull barrel, or getting a standard one and changing the barrel out?

I've never done it myself but I've seen people change out these barrells and it looks like they just drop in. It is done very quickly.

It's very easy to change the barrel, just remove one take down screw and two barrel screws. If you plan doing any benchrest shooting over fifty yards, go with 10/22t with the bull barrel. If you want the versatility of a field and target rifle, get a sporter 10/22. Then buy a stock and bull barrel combo.

That's what I'm trying to decide. I'm fairly sure that I've decided on a 10/22 for my next purchase. The next question is, do a 20" bull barrel, good optics, target stock and set it up for 100yd bench shooting? Or, do I get a std barrel model and a cool AR, Krinkov, MP5, or P90 style stock? I have seen a couple of 10/22 "bull pups" on the net that looked good. :?

Thanks, but I'm looking more at CZ or Savage now.
If you are prepared to take a short drive, I'm sure that Woody and I could arrange for you fire a CZ 452 Varmint and a tricked out 10/22 side by side for comparison. :) If I can convince my wayward pig farming friend to join us, you would be able to try out a nicely set up 452 American as well.
