Reports of LAPD Officer down

A Los Angeles Police Department officer was shot Monday night, prompting a search in the Watts area, police said.

The officer was believed to have been shot in the Nickerson Gardens area of Watts on E 111th Street and Antwerp Street around 11 p.m.

The officer was taken to a hospital, the desk officer said. The officer's identity and condition are not immediately known. A civilian has been pronounced dead at scene

An officer was struck in the left arm and was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The officer is expected to survive.After the gunfire, police swarmed the area and established a perimeter as they searched for other possible suspects. Linder said an â€œagitatedâ€ crowd initially gathered after the shooting, but the group has since dispersed.
