FULL STORY:
Me and the family went to the houston county court house to do the necessary paper work for my wife to receive her GFL.
Enter court house: First deputy stares straight at my 1911, holstered, OCing
I walk up pushing my daughter in her stroller and proceed to the metal detector
Deputy: "You have your credentials?"
Me: "Yes I do"
I hand him my Military I.D. to test his knowledge of the law.
Deputy: "Uhh, ok... Do you have a GFL?"
Me: "I have one in case I leave GA, here it is"
Deputy: "Go ahead and disarm yourself and put your gun in the lockbox"
At this point I thought hmmm, why is he disarming me? But I did it and then went to the probate court room. My daughter decided to let everyone know that she was not pleased with the deputy and started screaming. I let my wife handle the paperwork and I took my daughter for a calm down stroll doing the shhh, its ok talk. As I was walking around in the hall I hear the deputy I first talked to tell another that it was the guy with the kid. This deputy, lt. martin, walked towards me with anger and confronted me.
lt: "why did you bring a gun into my building!"
Me: "Sir, I believe I did so within the laws and regulations set forth by the state of GA"
lt: "Just because you have a GFL doesn’t mean you can "tote" a gun anywhere you want"
Me: "Sir I am in the military, so according to GA code 16-11-130 I am exempt just as you are"
lt: "Just because your military doesn’t mean anything!"
Me: According to the law you "uphold" it does"
lt: "Your gonna go get that gun, unload it, and take it out to your vehicle"
Me: "May I ask why?"
lt: "Because your not a police officer, and as far as I’m concerned your just another guy with a gun!"
Me: "Whoa whoa whoa, Sir I am giving you respect, please afford me the same courtesy as well. We both took an oath right?"
lt: "I don’t give a damn what oath you took, this is my courthouse!"
I then realized that this individual was set in his ways about me not having a gun. Which by the way is in a locked up locker the whole time.
I then asked him for his badge number and who his supervisor was. I was then told to leave. I retrieved my gun, unloaded it and left. As I left I called the Sheriffs Dept. The Lt. on the phone asked me if I could just put the gun back in my vehicle and file a complaint later if I wanted to. I said ok that would be fine. She talked to the deputies on my phone and they let me back in. Not past the check in, just in the foyer. This is when it got fun... The deputy's started to think it was their duty to question why I carry a gun, why i need a gun, and that they don’t think it should be legal. That’s when the AF reserve guy and me went at it! Like I said, I cant touch the civi deputy's, but the AF reserve guy is fresh meat! I told him that I carry a gun for protection, he said that I’m just a wanna-be cop trying to act as if I have authority. This pissed me off! I then asked him if he thinks civilians should have the right to carry a gun. He said "NO" I then reminded him that he swore to defend that right. He looked at me with a smile that said I don’t give a @#&$... I told him that his duty to the military came before his duty as a deputy. I then told him "You disgust me, your the worse of the worse in the military" he had nothing to say... They then began to escort myself and my family back to my truck and even when we got there they continued to ask me that if I thought everyone should have a gun, "what about the retards(slow people), the mentally ill, the criminals" I was so baffled that an LEO was this immature and basically told him that if he didn’t know the law then we are all in trouble. I looked him up and down, I got in my truck, and I drove away.... He followed me in his car.
There is a few more details here and there but for the sake of me breaking my keyboard I will wrap it up with this....
I called and had my name and # left for the Sheriff himself to call me back and set up a meeting.
