Dekalb police has a range in Lithonia, but its only open on Fridays to the public (when most people are at work). The Stone Mountain range(Mastergunman) is pretty shabby, but I use it because it's on my route home form work. There's another range in Forest Park(haven't been there yet). If you really want to have some fun and stretch out, go to Charlie Elliott WMA in Mansfield. It's a bit of a drive down I-20E, but it's free and has a 25/50 yd pistol and a 100 yd rifle range. I wish there was something GCO could do to get the Dekalb PD range open to the public on the weekends. hint, hint

Just a few miles away is Georgia Range And Guns, just down the street from the State Farmer's Market. Not a super range, but not bad either. 12 pistols and 2 rifles.

Decent selection of hardware, sort of decent selection of ammo, about 5% higher on gun prices than if you shop around. But decent folk in there.

Handful of LEO's go there when off the clock.

I try to drop by once a month during lunch for range time.

Is the DeKalb County range back open for the public? It was reserved strictly for the police when their indoor range reached toxic lead levels 1 to 1 1/2 years ago.

Neither meet your definition of "closer," but there's also American Classic in Norcross and Bullseye in L'ville.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I figured better this than starting a new one. I'm going to be Decatur for a few weeks and was looking for a range where I can shoot pistol and my AR. I'm also willing to travel a bit so are there any other ranges in the Decatur / Atlanta region? Or are the ones listed here just about it?

Also any ideas for shops to buy ammo? I have a bran new AR that Im going to want to buy accessories for while I'm up there as well.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Other than the DeKalb Gov't Range, there are ranges in DeKalb County (Decatur). American Clasic Marksman in Norcross (probably 30 minutes from Decatur in light traffic) and Bullseye in Lawrenceville (40 minutes or so) are probably your best bets. Both have fifle ranges and allow rapid and full auto fire.
