question about accessory rails

I know all pistols do NOT use a universal accessory rail. However, I think there are a couple of styles which are most common. Can someone please list them and explain the difference between them for me?

I do not currently have any accessories, but would eventually like to pick up a light for my HD gun. Other than lasers, what other accessories are there?

If I am correct there is also Universal rail, which may or may not be the same as weaver. Someone correct me here, please.

Nice info. I googled things like "pistol accessory rail systems" and similar but didn't get anything useful. I always forget the wiki.
