My company's Xmas party is at a private country club. There will be a bar. It's an open bar, so is that alcohol being sold or just served?

So is a private party at a private club still a public gathering?

Hmmmm, this got me thinking. My company is holding it's Christmas party at a hotel/convention center. Alcohol will not be served at the party but the hotel has a bar located in another area of the building. Since the hotel bar sells alcohol for consumption on site is the ENTIRE hotel off limits? This may greatly effect my choice of hotels on future trips....

Well, an entire shopping mall isn't off limits if there's an Applebee's at one end. I wouldn't think the entire hotel would be off limits if there's a bar in the lobby. Plus, one's hotel room has always been considered an extension of one's home.
