I have a friend who had a policeman's business card in the door with a note and number to call on the back. The cop is from another county and I'm sure if they were going to tote the person away, they wouldn't leave a card. Any idea the kinds of things a cop would leave a card for, especially from a different jurisdiction?

was it a sheriff or marshal ? usually it is to serve a person papers for a lawsuit.
I didn't think to look at that. What happens if this person does not call? I wouldn't think there would be a law to compel getting in contact with the cop.

Best way to find out is to place the call.

So how many warrants does your friend have?

I don't know that this person has any, especially because of the puzzlement of getting the card. If the person knew there were warrants out, there wouldn't be the mystery.

If there were a warrant, would a police officer leave a card announcing they are after the person? Doesn't seem like a very good way of catching a person.

He might need to talk to him as a witness, or he might want to inform him that somebody's made a threat against him, or a past enemy is being released from jail. All sorts of scenarios. He really ought to call.

Ok, if I know about this does that mean I spend too much time on here.

At this point the only way to find out why he left the card is to call. Its just a phone call, if your buddy has warrants he still has time to run before they get to his house. But alot of the above makes sense. It could be a number of reasons that we can speculate on but we won't ever know until you call :D

If the Sheriff's office left the card, it's probably to serve somebody at that house (or somebody who USED TO live there) papers regarding a lawsuit. Either naming that person a defendant in the suit or to deliver a witness subpoena to come to court as a witness.

Or any kind of LEO might have left the card just to talk to the person (or, again, some prior occupant that no longer lives there) about being a possible witness in some case.

State and federal law requires you to let us know the story behind the card once you find out.
Sorry, but I would never betray a confidence.

Folks, if you got that little reference, then you really need to get off of GPDO for a while, and get a real life.

That includes ME.
