Man, Georgia needs to get on board with the Constitution carry, so far this week I have seen Colorado, Wyoming and now South Carolina put a bill up to support CC without a permit, if you can buy a gun you can carry it (on you, concealed, etc).... with us living in the south we should have been the FIRST to pass a Constitution carry law! Is there anyway to get this moving here in GA?

Have you met your state legislators for a meal recently?
Could your state legislators identify you if they bump into you at the grocery store?

Constitutional carry will happen eventually, but we need more "yes" answers to both of the questions above.

Just moved here to Savannah so trying to figure all this out. I have a Louisiana Permit, and am in the process of getting a GA permit.

My suggestions:
1. Get registered to vote here ASAP.
2. Check out Georgia Carry, link below.
3. Get to know your state legislators.

Now that you have finished that before breakfast, the interesting bills so far are as follows:
HB 54 - Church carry
HB 55 - College carry
SB 26 - Katrina style provision
SB 98 - Reduces off-limits locations to courthouses, prisons, jails, and school zones

SB 98 and SB 26 are the ones to push, SB 98 would accomplish more than HB 54 and HB 55 together.

Georgia Carry's website has more than I can summarize here.

Zander, Georgia has such a bill, HB 5. We're not left out. That being said, the others here are correct: let us focus on what can be done this year, keeping the ball rolling toward our goal. Our rights were not eroded in a day, nor will be they reinstated in one day. We should put our efforts into the bills listed above that have a chance of moving.

SB98 itself ads nothing to school or campus carry. In fact, it restricts it more. But since having a GWL is required you still may carry under the current school carry laws. While you may not get an exemption to drop-off/pick-up a student, etc. through SB98, you still get that ability through current laws. So if you want Campus Carry, then you better push for HB 55 unless we can get the school language removed from SB98. I know Spring and Summer are coming, the weather's getting nice and people aren't as interested in the internet right now, etc. But we really need to get on the ball spreading the word and contacting our representatives on these bills if we want them to go anywhere.

Agreed :righton: . GeorgiaCarry.org has done more for Georgian's gun rights in the last few years than any other organization (including the NRA) and is well worth the $15 to join.

Yes. HB-5 removes state preemption, which also allows every municipality to write their own laws. SB-98 is as close as we can come for now, it hasn't even been heard yet.

Really? I thought according to the state constitution the General Assembly is the only one that has a say in regard to arms.

Constitutional carry is a great idea but I only support it if it still allows me to get a GWL if I choose to. $70 for not standing around waiting for 15 minutes (or possibly 3 business days) for a background check to come back AND being able to carry in other states because of reciprocity seems like money well spent. I don't oppose it until it gets in the way of me not having to put up with NICS whims or computer problems, or just downright pissy examiners who have every bit of ability to delay someone simply because they don't like the information provided. :sly:

I know AZ kept their permit as an option when they passed constitutional carry to allow residents to gain reciprocity (and possibly for background checks, not sure). You don't need a permit there, but you can still get one.

IIRC in AZ, there are also areas where you can ONLY carry with a permit even now. Wouldn't want that nugget in any similar law in GA. On topic, I agree that this year, or this legislative session entirely, it's not gonna happen. I'd be more concerned about removing restrictions wherever possible, so that when we DO introduce a constitutional carry bill, absolutely the only thing in it would need to be language removing the requirement for a GWL (agree with still keeping it available for all the reasons already given).
