Just got my Pennsylvania Pistol Permit, twelve days from the time I mailed it! Centre County.

Better hurry if you need one, the law changes to "in person" after the new year.

:righton: on obtaining your PA license...it is too bad that PA decided to change the manner in which they issue licensees because Centre County will probably end up losing a ton of money from all of these out of state "gun nuts" getting licensed through this county. In times of economic hardship, it is really dumb to cut off sources of revenue.
This is good to hear. I sent my app. off last week and am hoping to get it back in time to be able to carry in VA over Christmas.
I sent it via priority with a priority return envelope and received it back in 5 days for a trip earlier this year. :righton:
Here is a link for info concerning how to obtain a PA license...http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/pennsylvania.pdf
I was actually up In McKean County last week and could have gooten it in person.

I think this is my sixth non-resident permit....

Called Centre County. They say that the cut-off is May, 2011. After that you've got to physically apply in PA.

I asked what is the earliest that you can apply. The lady implied that it didn't matter.

She said that they'll get you your LTCF in about (2) two weeks.
Does anyone know if this has changed? Is it January 1st or May 1st?
Aren't those the same thing, essentially?
Is it necessary to send a photo of yourself on the application?
No.... I did not. My license says, "Valid without photo".

All they want is a photocopy of your GWL (GFL), and a copy of your driver's license. I think they would take any other photo ID in place of the driver's license. The wife and I sent for ours last week. The application is extremely simple.
Wife got hers in twelve days.
i just got mine back....now i am exempt from PA 1000ft school rule :righton: mine took about the same time i think only because of the weather is why they are taking a little longer than normal

now im just waiting for my florida ccw to arrive

I got mine back in a lil bit less than a month. If you have your tracking # on yer app, you can check it via the automated system.

just curious "as I'm obviously new here", what would be the benefit of getting a state's license (like FL), if the GWCL is valid there?

http://www.handgunlaw.us go to this site and check the number of states who recognize Florida vs Georgia. I think you see the advantage for someone who travels or has reason to spend time in a state that doesn't recognize the GWL.

1) Reciprocity with more states. For example, even though FL will honor your GWL, there are some states out there that will honor a FL license, but not the GWL. With a FL license, you can legally carry in more states.

2) You will be exempt from the federal gun-free school-zone law while in a state that you have a license from.

3) LE will likely be more familiar with a license issued by their own state.

4) IF your GWL were suspended/revoked your license from another state, under some circumstances, MIGHT remain valid so you could carry in some states when you leave Georgia.

5) To me, it never hurts to have layers of paperwork.

Thanks for the help.
Are the out-of-state permits pretty easy to obtain?
