Is there anything off limits of you have a license?

Also, one can carry concealed without a license while travelling to and from a range where one is a member. Or while going fishing or hunting or going to or returning from those pursuits. I think I would keep a fishing pole permanently in my back seat.

No reciprocity with anybody. :evil: So how do I carry a gun while driving?

(1) State v. Johnson, 96 Or. App. 166 (1989) A knife carried in a sheath on the belt is not concealed, even though a short jacket covered the knife. “Once the officer discovered that defendant carried his knife openly in a sheath at his waist, he no longer had reasonable suspicion, let alone probable cause, to suspect defendant of wrongdoing. The reason for the officer's stop of defendant having dissipated, the subsequent arrest and search were unjustified and therefore illegal.â€

(2) State v. Fisher, 100 Or. App. 149 (1990) “We conclude that the plain language of ORS 166.250 does not make it unlawful for a person to carry a firearm openly in a belt holster, whether or not the person is riding in a motor vehicle.â€

I stumbled across the above while researching how I, as a nonresident, may carry in Oregon while driving. I think I found my answer.

Every year since 1999 we have had bills to recognize other state's permits. We've even passed a few, only to have them vetoed.

Their state police web site claims a gun must be in a trunk and locked.

OFF informs me that they have taken this up with the state police, but that the level of ignorance there was so discouraging as to . . .

I "make friends" with the people who can change the law for the better, not the people who threaten to jail me for obeying the law or the people who blatantly violate the law themselves.

I am sitting on the Oregon central coast as I write this. I have open carried a .45 just about everywhere while I have been in this state. Other than my relatives' joking comments, nobody has even mentioned my gun to me. When I stopped in Walmart over in hippieville (Eugene), the clerk glanced at my gun when handing me my change, smiled broadly, and then she said"Have a nice day!"

It was refreshing to carry in a state with such good laws. It felt kind of weird openly loading my pistol on airport property and sticking it in my holster.

I was close enough to the entrance that a police officer, even a mediocre shot, could have hit me without having to step away from the building. Of course, this was not the Atlanta airport.

No law broken, no SWAT team, no crying kids and panicked soccer moms.

For those who are against open carry - I had no other choice while visiting Oregon, which does not honor any other state's license but does not criminalize open carry without a license - just as the majority of states do not criminalize open carry without a license.

It's funny how everyone at work has learned very quickly that anti american or anti military sentiment is not allowed in my presence. I work with a lot of foreigners so I just tell if you don't like it then GET OUT OF HERE. sorry getting off soapbox now.

. . . a new crime, "possessing or controlling a firearm in a restricted access area." What do gun owners get in exchange? A promise from Port of Portland Executive Director Bill Wyatt that he will "recommend" that the Port of Portland Commission "take all necessary steps to conform Port ordinances concerning weapons possession to current Oregon law."

Some deal. The Port Police get expanded powers, gun owners get a new crime and a promise that a "recommendation" will be made that the Port start obeying the law.
