Hey,
GCO, myself as well as others have gave our opinions on open carry. I understand that it can be a deterreant however, criminals get bolder as time goes on. I don't want a fight here its just that tactics do change and you may have to also. Just like this war we are fighting for those of you who have seen combat its like the US has not learned from past wars.

Someone sent this to me and crimes that happen up north find there way here in the south eventually.

Give me your opinion on what this officer and instructor has to say.

I said this exact thing the other day in another thread. That I preferred CC to OC for the fact the a smart criminal would target someone they saw with a gun.

They asked me to prove it. I said I didn't need to, but thanks for linking this.

Wonder if this will strengthen the push for CC in WI. I just moved down here to ATL from WI this last summer.

Personally, I prefer CC for a variety of reasons. This is one.

I maintain that any two unarmed but determined folks, with a tiny bit of planning, can take an OC'ers gun away.

Then I saw the spokesman in that video. I take it all back.

If I recall correctly, you have stated this several times.
IYO what makes them armed?

I would think a firearm and proper training would make one armed.
I agree if you have to pull that gun out and fight for your life it is not your lucky day, and if you do not hit what you are shooting at then you put innocent people at risk. I am sure some LEO's can tell you about going to crime scenes cases all over the place and no one got hit.

I could tell you about plenty (and I'm sure the good Sheriff and Legacy could too) about shootings involving LAW ENFORCEMENT where there were empty casings all over the place and no one got hit!

Adrenaline does funny things to motor control and causes some serious tunnel vision.

What generally does this prove?

"...the final weapon is the brain, all else is supplemental."

I do believe that is what the good Sheriff means.

Proves that OC doesn't totally discourage confrontation. Supports that you're likely to targeted by someone with half a brain.

I don't want to get into OC vs. CC debate, they are both fine. Someone just said that it was urban legend that someone who OC could be targeted prior/during a crime.

Reporter: "Some might argue who's more dangerous; the guy that police know has a gun on him, or the guy that police don't know has a gun on him".

Instructor: "Well, if you like to have guns pointed at you, then that is fine 'cause that's what's going to happen to you. If officers approach a person with a gun on them, then they are going to have their guns drawn or they're going to at least have their hand on their sidearm. Whereas, with me, they're going to approach me and I'm going to tell them that I have a concealed weapon on me and I'm a concealed weapons licensee....... and they're a lot more relaxed".
I find this absurd. There are many logical reasons to conceal versus open carry - in this 3 minute interview, he gave zero. He wants people to go to jail if they choose to open carry a firearm. :x

Listening to the story, it appears that this guy had a BG get the jump on him. He actually "helped the robber get the gun out" when the BG struggled with the holster... I don't see anything here that changes my feelings toward open carry.
