Have a very different view on most everything than we do here. By law they have to inform officers they are armed when encountered. Not just for traffic stops either but when they are in precense of one. Currently having a discussion with them but they even think you should inform officers when disarmed that they have a chl. Some other things, but its amazing how gun owners opinions can be so different on similar topics.

Interesting. So, I guess if they pull up behind a squad car at a traffic light, they get out of their car and go inform the officer that they are carrying or not with a CHL? I can come up with a whole bunch more possible silly scenarios if you want. :shattered:
The Ohio laws for CCW state that:
- holders must inform LE when they are carrying, on their person or in their vehicle, when they have an encounter with LE
- holders do NOT have to inform LE they are CCW holders if they do not have a firearm on their person or in their vehicle when they have an encounter with LE

An example for a must inform encounter: a traffic stop for speeding.

Not an example of a must inform encounter : speaking with LE at a construction zone while waiting to pass through it.
Wow.... sounds like the folks in OH should keep their guns unloaded and tie-wrapped so that they can hand them over at any encounter...
Not that an officer is likely to want to disarm a lawfully carrying citizen :D
I'd be interested in reading this discussion if it's online.

Yeah, I know. I looked it up. But then again, there are people in this state, including LEOs, that think a GWL is for concealed carry only. But it's sometimes very entertaining to hear how people interpret things.

basically what started the convo was a guy got into a wreck and when the officer came to the scene he notified him he was disarmed. to me this is ridiculously stupid. I said why bother doing that? he thinks it makes him look like a good guy. I know there laws require notifying if armed, but disarmed just makes no sense and brings up a subject irreleveant to whats going on.
I wonder what CCPD might do if you tried that.
taser to the face!
