A headstone leads deputy to old grave

Armed with this information, Kilpatrick searched the old cemetery until he found a place near an old tree with bases for two small tombstones - and discovered pieces of shattered stone.

At the foot of a tree Kilpatrick knelt down and placed the marble headstone against the oak.

"I don't have any doubt this is where it belongs," he said.

I love visiting and discovering old graveyards around north Georgia. For the life of me, I cannot understand why someone would remove or damage a headstone like that.

Good job, Lieutenant!

Lt. Kilpatrick did a great job getting help and using our resources to track down where that headstone belongs.
David is very thorough and does a great job for me and the citizens in Oconee.

As far as the speeding article goes.....I 'spect we will still write a double handful of tickets, even after posting it in the newspaper,
our Facebook page, and putting up mobile signs warning drivers.

Taking a break from catching speeders:

Some of the comments are awesome. One commenter somehow comes to the conclusion that a warning in the paper is entrapment. :screwy:
I wasn't being serious with my comment. I applaud Kilpatrick's dedication.

I miss living in Oconee County. Best Sheriff's office in Georgia, if I do say so.
