That means Mubarak might still survive, but our influence won't. The endorsement of Suleiman means that we won't see a dynasty of Mubaraks, which is probably a good thing, but also means that Egypt's secret police will call the shots in the future. The Cedar revolution has been swallowed up by Hezbollah. Lebanon will almost inevitably see another civil war, along with ethnic cleansing and possibly genocide. Jordan is falling under the Iranian umbrella. The days of the Hashemite kingdom are numbered. Imagine a Gaza four times the size of Israel. That's what we're on track for now.

Once Israel is bracketed in by enemies, an Islamist Turkey, a Muslim Brotherhood run Egypt and a Palestinian Jordan, and Iranian dominated Syria and Lebanon-- the game will move into its final stages. Iran needs to destroy Israel in order to prove its right to rule the region, but Israel is also one of the few points of agreement between Sunnis and Shiites. Iran's real foe is Saudi Arabia, but it can't act directly against it without bringing America into the game. If Iran can take Mecca, its leaders become the supreme authorities of Islam. Shiite control over Mecca might trigger a global Muslim civil war.

Well written article. What possible negative implications could this have for us in America? They are probably countless.

Let the Muslims have a civil war, maybe it'll take some of their attention away from their rabid hatred of western civilization. Once a competent POTUS takes office, hopefully he can use the break in tension to actually focus on the American economy, securing our borders, etc.

Then again, I'm really trying to be an optimist. Things aren't looking very good for Israel. With the current disdain for Israel shown by Obama and growing hatred towards them by the rest of the world, it could get ugly in Israel real fast.

Time will tell.

If countries in the ME do fall into civil war that is their affair. Anti-Americanism will increase if we are perceived to be supporting forces that would continue to oppress them.

As for Obama, he had an amazing opportunity to help America's cause. Instead he has sat on the sidelines to see which side is going to end up on top. He will claim to have not only always supported their cause, but actually helped them to win.

Just watch there will be increasing alarm about 'radical' elements coming to power. That has always been the catchword to spur us into activity, but has mainly been used as an excuse to repress democratic reforms.

As for Israel, they will attempt to keep Mubarak in power, because that is the bargain he made for the financial support we have been giving him. Play nice with Israel, and we will give you billions in aid and keep you in power, regardless of what you do to your own people.

We should end all aid to the region. None for Israel, none for Egypt, none for Palestine, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, or Yemen. Let all of these countries deal with their own people and their neighbors without our money or manipulation. We would find the whole region a much more friendly and less volatile place.

We'll only ever find that region 'peaceful', and even then it would only be a temporary peace, once Israel is literally wiped off the map or under the full control of Islamic powers. Israel will launch every nuke she owns before letting that happen, effectively starting - and dragging us into - WW3. At this rate we'll be increasing humanitarian aid to the whole region if the Muslim Brotherhood takes control of Egypt.

That's why this will continue to be a stalemate. We won't sit back and watch genocide happen in Israel, and Islam won't ever relent and simply accept Israel's right to exist.
