Not sure if the cure is worse than the disease. Then again, 25% of El Salvadore's GDP is remittances from abroad. Wanna guess where those remittances come from? Now factor in multi-national gangs that can apply extortion to both ends of that pipeline due to US immigration laws that encourage lawbreakers to enter the country. Really, there is no economic diversity. Everything is based on getting a bigger piece of the remittance pie. El Salvador doesn't have a gang problem, they have an incipient revolution problem.
