ELM MOTT, Texas - A Navy man who got mad when someone mocked him as a "nerd" over the Internet climbed into his car and drove 1,300 miles from Virginia to Texas to teach the other guy a lesson.

As he made his way toward Texas, Fire Controlman 2nd Class Petty Officer Russell Tavares posted photos online showing the welcome signs at several states' borders, as if to prove to his Internet friends that he meant business.

When he finally arrived, Tavares burned the guy's trailer down.

I saw that article. That guy totally wrecked his life. No priors. A high level security clearance in the Navy.

What does he do? Drive across the country to burn down the trailer of someone who called him a nerd on the internet. Sweet!

Now he is discharged. Security clearance revoked. Facing several years in prison.

It's funny in a really twisted sort of way, but...

Why, why, why!?!? WTF is his major malfunction? People call me geek, nerd, etc. on forums and games.

Do I go ape :censored: and drive halfway across the country and screw up my life just to show some random Internet user what a tough guy I am?

Hell no. I laugh, log off, and go hang out with a smokin' hot woman that, for some insane reason, thinks I'm the best thing since the invention of center-fire cartridge. Besides, I just assume he is some internet commando in his momma's basement talking tough to make himself feel better about his Cheetos addiction.

Just imagine the (temporary) satisfaction of posting a picture, online, of your antagonists house burning to the ground with you giving a thumbs up in front of it... with "PWNED" at the bottom.

Sure, you'll get hauled off to jail pretty quick, but you would pretty much live on forever in internet infamy!

Actually, that sounds pretty funny. If I were MSNBC, I would have posted it.

this tells me that anderson musta been a real prick behind what he felt was the privacy of his monitor, i've run across several of those myself over the years. law of the average says if work hard enough at being an AH you'll eventually mess with the wrong person. not that i think a way over the top road trip and arson response was justified but anderson most definitely learned a valuable life's lesson.
