A shootout near popular Midtown bars and restaurants late Thursday damaged about 20 vehicles and littered the corner of Crescent Avenue and 13th Street with more than 60 shell casings, police said.
The gun battle occurred nearly one year after Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed met with Midtown residents and laid out a multi-pronged plan to push back against an uptick in crime.
No one was injured in the shootout, but witnesses and residents said they felt anything but safe.
One witness described Thursday’s shootout as “quite possibly the scariest night of my life,†according to Channel 2 Action News.
James Keaton Maxwell, who has lived in Midtown for seven years, said the incident was “literally too close to home.â€

That's when he says he heard "hundreds of rounds" of bullets.
Police recovered more than sixty rounds from at least six different weapons. The five different calibers of ammunition recovered included .380, 9mm, .40, .45 and 7.62. An AK-47 rifle was recovered from the bushes near a parking lot.
Adding to the chaos of the shooting, multiple buildings in the area sustained damage.* Residents at the Mayfair Renaissance on 14th Street between Juniper and Piedmont report one stray bullet entered a unit and hit a sprinkler system, causing flooding.*
A window at the Marriott Hotel at 34 14th Street was struck by a bullet. The guests inside were moved to another room.*
The brick building at 112 Crescent Ave. was shot multiple times.
Capt. Johnson said there have been no reported injuries and no suspects in custody.

I'm struck my how many weapons were apparently used during this dust-up, based on what appears to be actual evidence from shell casings and such.
