This is becoming unbelievable. Anyone wanna bet that these imbeciles are going to harass anyone with a gun even if they aren't entering any kind of "secured" area? They're also leaving the door open for this garbage beyond this weekend. Since guns are explicitly permitted on MARTA, what are they going to do? Harass anyone with a gun? Anyone with electronics (like a cellphone) under their clothes?

Get some sheet metal. A couple bolt holes so you can bolt it into a cylinder around your waist to chest and go have some fun. Take a buddy or 3 to video the thing.

Also, that "see something, say something" idea is troubling to me. As said before, didn't we pass this 35 years ago?

Why is this under-clothes scanning “illegal,” Clark ?

I’m tempted to get a 3 pound Hillshire Farms summer sausage and a couple of potatoes and put them down the front of my pants before my next MARTA ride (if I were going to ride Marta downtown this weekend).

What about all those folks at all those other MARTA stations who are not being scanned? They could be concealing all sorts of weaponry, chemicals, poison, and bombs under those winter coats.

If you see a coat that looks too bulgy, you better say something.

Speaking of bulgy, keep your eyes at eye level when greeting passersby. Some might be packing kielbasa and russets down below.

Oughta get a dozen folks together and put on an incognito protest over this. Video and youtube it. Just to show them how foolish the attempts are.

They've made the nude-o-scopes portable and long range? Well, that's terrifying.

Why is it that whenever the government implements the latest overly invasive measure for "security", the media only ever airs quotes from sheep who sound like they'd tolerate any magnitude of indignity to "feel safe"? You'd think at least once they could manage to show an actual different opinion.

I'm not Clark, but the 4th Amendment would seem to apply. Attempting to board a MARTA train isn't probable cause to get a warrant to take nude pictures of someone, and I'm sure they're not trying to get warrants for any of this anyway.

This appears to be a new system, not the old nude-o-vision we love and admire. Developed with the TSA in mind.

Their own video shows that you get naked images. They aren't even hiding it! I guarantee you, if you took a blacklight to the booths where tsa's goons hide out and ogle the passengers, it'd look like a Jackson Pollock in there.

Has there been any legal challenge to the use of such devices on 4th amendment grounds? Has this or will this likely fall into the DUI checkpoint loophole?

I have heard of Disney World Security approaching shoppers at their Disney Springs (previously Disney Marketplace) in Orlando inquiring about concealed weapons. While legal in Florida, Disney policy prohibits carrying, even at the open access Disney Springs. I wonder if they are using something similar to this. I've heard of several concealed carriers being approached and asked about a firearm that they were very sure was not printing.

Best solution: stay away from Disney.

I think Disney may use firearm-sniffing dogs at Disney Springs. I was at Disney Springs last year while packing, and I did not see any dogs or elicit any security responses. We were there for about 1-2 hours. If they used this type of technology, they would have to use multiple scanners at multiple points of entrance to actually keep out stuff. Otherwise, they would be scanning large crowds in the main shopping complex, and there were enough turns, buildings, and walkways that a single line of sight scanner would not cover everywhere.

I would imagine a way to test this would be to carry a loaded magazine but no gun and see if security notices.

That may be the case. These were people who were in fact carrying. Security never did reveal how they became aware of the concealed firearms.

We go every year, the only police I see are the sheriff deputies. I've never seen any Mickey mouse cops!

Do you carry in the park? Have you gotten past the gates with it?

MARTA may just want to know who has weapons and who doesn't.
But... what if somebody has a weapon and won't stop and answer any questions and won't show their GWL (or even confirm whether they have one)?
GA law says cops can't stop people just to see if they have a carry license.
MARTA cops are real state-certified cops.
Maybe if you set off the security alert due to what's under your clothes, you are simply denied the use of MARTA? Given a notice that you cannot get on that train, that bus, or whatever, under threat of Criminal Trespass?
