Pebbles had the home court advantage. Not really surprising. He was hidden and could probably tell where Herrick was when he was being hunted down. Herrick was in unfamiliar territory.

What do you expect? Herrick was ambushed by Pebbles who hiding from him in his own home. Pebbles should have been out in the open and easier to find so Herrick had a fair chance of killing him.

I'm thinking they had keys to each others' homes. It wasn't reported as a forced entry. I'm also thinking there might have been some "unrequited love" involved here.
